CELEBRATION OF MENTAL HEALTH WEEK 2020
The Department of Psychiatry, AIIMS
Bhopal conducted various activities from 5th Oct to 10th
Oct, 2020 as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.
Inauguration of Student Wellness
Graduate & post-graduating students are highly likely to experience
psychological distress, which can over time convert into various mental health
disorders or addictions. With the objective of early identification and
intervention of this issue, an unique initiative was started at AIIMS Bhopal,
called Student Wellness Centre which was inaugurated on 10th Oct
2020 by Prof. Manisha Shrivastav, Medical Superintendent, in presence of Dean
(Academics), and other dignitaries of the institute.
Release of patient information booklet: A 22 page Hindi booklet
on various aspect of mental illnesses was released by Prof. Manisha
Shrivastava, Medical Superintendant, AIIMS Bhopal. This booklet will be freely
distributed to patients and caregivers at AIIMS Bhopal.
Webinar on Mental Health organised
jointly by AIIMS Bhopal and National Health Mission, Madhya Pradesh: Department of Psychiatry, AIIMS Bhopal and National Health Mission, Madhya Pradesh have jointly organised Virtual
Webinar on “Depression and Suicide in Clinical
Practice: Relevance in COVID-19 Pandemic Period” on 9th Oct 2020. Prof. Vijender Singh, Prof. & Head
Department of Psychiatry AIIMS Bhopal and Prof. Ram Ghulam Razdan, Head
Deptt. of Psychiatry, MGM Medical College Indore, presented their talk on the given topic. The Session was
moderated by Dr. Rajni Chatterjee, (MD Psychiatry) Consultant Professor
Psychiatry, BMHRC Bhopal. This webinar on mental Health was presided by Dr
Saloni Sidana, Additional Mission Director of National Health Mission,
Madhya Pradesh and was
conluded by Dr Sharad Tiwari, Deputy Director, National Health Mission, Madhya Pradesh. This programme was attended by
Psychiatrists, Medical Officers, Nurses and Counsellors of the state. There was
a good discussion about the Existing services, newer directions and
opportunities for increasing awareness,
decreasing stigma and facilitating treatment of mental disorders in the state.
There were deliberations about decreasing the treatment gap and increasing
access of the people to treatment of mental illnesses.
Webinar on Mental Health for the
Faculty Members, Residents and Nurses at AIIMS Bhopal. A webinar on the topic “Stress & Burnout in COVID Warriors: Identification &
Management” was organised by
Department of Psychiatry on 8th October 2020. The webinar was
moderated by Prof. (Dr) Sarman Singh, Director & CEO AIIMS Bhopal and
presented by Prof. (Dr) Vijender Singh, Head Department of Psychiatry and Dr UK
Sinha, Additional Professor & Head Department of Psychology, IHBAS, Delhi.
There were discussions and deliberations about identification, manifestations
and management of Stress and Burn out in Doctors and nurses. The moderator of
the webinar Prof. (Dr) Sarman Singh, applauded the efforts by Department of Psychiatry and the expert speaker Dr UK Sinha for a useful presentation and
Public Lecture: A web based Lecture on
“MH Issues amid COVID-19 Pandemic: Identification &
Management” was delivered by Prof. Vijender Singh, Head Deptt. of Psychiatry,
AIIMS Bhopal on 10th October 2020.in order to create awareness about
mental illnesses and curtailing stigma among the members of civil society.
Prof. Singh explained the about common symptoms of mental illnesses, Barriers
uin Identification and seeking treatment and management issues in Hindi
on Common Mental Disorders: Prof. Vijender Singh, Head Deptt. of
Psychiatry, AIIMS Bhopal delivered an invited lecture for students of
Barkatullah University on 10th October 2020. This lecture was a part
of deliberations by the Department of Psychology, Barkatullah University,
Bhopal on the occasion of World Mental Health Day 2020 and this programme was
chaired by Hon’ble Vice-Chancell9or of Barkatullah University Bhopal. Prof.
Vijender Singh stressed the
importance of early identification and seeking treatment for drug related
problems and other mental health problems in college students.
Programme of Door Darshan Madhya
Pradesh: Department of Psychiatry arranged 2 episodes of programme to increase
awareness about mental illness, decreasing stigma for mental illness, childhood
mental illnesses like ADHD and Autistic Disorders. Prof.
Vijender Singh, Head Deptt. of Psychiatry, AIIMS Bhopal and Mr. Mohit Kumar, Clinical Psychologist
in Dept. of Psychiatry, AIIMS Bhopal, along with a representative of NGO Sangath
(Mr Aizaz, Clinical Psychologist) and One caregiver of a patient conducdted the
programme which is being aired on 9th & 10th of
October 2020 in view of World Mental Health Day.
Health Awareness Programs: Various activities as a part of Mental Health Week were carried
out in the OPD area of AIIMS Bhopal on three days like health education
(focusing on preventive aspect of mental health), lecture on value of
investment in yoga, sleep hygiene, healthy use of technology and giving oneself
a personal time for his/her mental health, educating common symptoms of stress
and mental disorders and how to seek help.
Webinar with Barkatullah University: Department of Psychiatry,
AIIMS Bhopal and Department of Psychology, Barkatullah University Bhopal have
jointly organised Virtual Webinar on “Youth at Risk of Substance Use: Catching
it Early” with Poster Competition with the theme of “Mental Health for
All: Substance Abuse and its Consequences” on 7th Oct 2020. Dr Snehil Gupta,
Assistant Professor in Dept. of Psychiatry, AIIMS Bhopal spoke about Youth at
Risk of Substance Use. Session was moderated by Mr. Mohit Kumar, Clinical
Psychologist in Dept. of Psychiatry, AIIMS Bhopal and Chaired byDr (Prof.)
Bhupinder Singh, HOD Dept. of Psychology, Barkatullah University. Through this
virtual programme many new researchers came up with their thought and ideas and
learned a lot of skill and information regarding myths and facts about substance
abuse, and also to improve their knowledge and healthy life style. This program
was well received by 50+ participants.

Neuropsychology and Counselling department of Psychology, Dr. HSGVV Sagar M.P.
University organisedNational Virtual Webinar on “Life amidst Crisis: Mental
Health Perspective of COVID-19Pandemic” on 8th Oct 2020 through Virtual platform.
Mr. Mohit Kumar, Clinical Psychologist, AIIMS Bhopal was invited as guest
speaker with the sub theme, gearing up for the new normal: Dealing with stigma
and infodemic where he gave lecture on “Social Stigma during COVID-19 and its
impact &New Normal”. In this virtual programme more than 150 participant
have been attended.
