About
Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology is a continuously emerging branch dealing with Medico-Legal Cases at AIIMS, Bhopal. It includes Medico-legal Autopsies, expert opinions, bone examination, injury & weapon examination, sexual assault survivor & accused examination and age estimation. Teaching & academic sessions for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students is an essential part of curriculum. Poison Information Centre (PIC) is run by the department which provides information regarding management of various poisoning cases nationwide. Clinical Forensic Medicine Unit (CFMU) deals with the medico-legal cases arriving at Trauma & Emergency department (TEM) and other departments of the Institute. The department also dwells into its subspecialities like Forensic Histopathology, Analytical & Clinical Toxicology, Forensic Microbiology and Forensic Radiology.
The department is the first in India to conduct a series of COVID autopsies during the pandemic to learn more about the disease.
The department is also involved in assisting the clinical autopsies and takes pride in dealing the Dead with Dignity.
The department conducts its two annual events a National level quiz for undergraduates Autopsy forense’ and a hands on workshop FORENSIC UPDATE for postgraduates every year which is very much appreciated nationwide. Tthe department id also involved actively in providing training to the Medical officers, police officers and Judiciary at National and international level.

The department is fully committed to fulfil its services with DIGNITY to the dead. The department strives to involve better and innovative researches in the field of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology.
