Highlights of the Department
Established on August 1, 2018, the Trauma and Emergency Department at AIIMS Bhopal plays a pivotal role in delivering immediate and specialized care to critically ill patients, showcasing a commitment to addressing urgent medical needs 24/7. In a year, the department attended to over 30,000 patients, emphasizing its crucial role in meeting diverse healthcare requirements. Currently, with an average of over 230 patients served daily, the department remains indispensable to the community.
Recognizing the paramount importance of trauma care, a 24-hour Trauma Services unit was inaugurated on January 20, 2019, enhancing the hospital capabilities to respond promptly to critical cases. The introduction of Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) Ambulance services from June 1, 2019, further demonstrates the commitment to extending immediate medical assistance beyond the hospital premises, contributing to a more accessible emergency medical infrastructure.
In addition to general care, the department features a specialized Pediatric Unit with 10 beds to address the unique needs of pediatric emergencies. Staffed with specialized professionals, this unit exemplifies the commitment to providing age-appropriate and comprehensive emergency care for children.

Answer: - The term "trauma" can be used in several different ways when referring to medical cases. Physical trauma occurs as the result of an outside force against your body (car accident, fall, gunshot wound, etc.).
Emotional or psychiatric trauma can be the result of physical trauma or the consequence of witnessing or experiencing a severely distressing event.
- What is the best way to clean a wound?
Answer: - The best way to clean a wound is with simple soap and water.
Rinse wounds thoroughly with clean water (tap water is fine) and remove any dirt or debris. A medical professional should evaluate wounds that are deep, large or very dirty.
- What is the complete medical terminology for CPR?
Answer: - Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation refers to the chest compressions and rescue breathing done for an unresponsive and pulse less person who has recently collapsed. The chest compressions are used to keep the blood circulating in the case of cardiac arrest (where the heart stops beating). CPR done correctly and early in the setting of a cardiac arrest situation can be life-saving.
- What are things that every first-aid kit should contain?
Answer: - Every first-aid kit should contain at least tweezers, hydrocortisone cream and painkillers. A good first aid kit will contain the basic things you need to attend to all sorts of minor injuries and illnesses. Your first aid kit should include the following items: -

- Hand sanitizer
- Rubber/latex gloves
- Wound cleaning wipes
- Topical antibiotics
- Over-the-counter pain relievers
- Tweezers
- Aspirin
- Allergy pills such as diphenylramine
