HighlightsThe Department of Community and Family Medicine at AIIMS Bhopal was established and functional since August 2012. Since the inception of the Institute, the Dept of CFM has been one of the key stakeholder in patient care, training needs and generating evidences as per the mandate of Institute. The aim of the department is to transform students into an efficient primary care physician with the wider context of family and community centric care. This broader aim also encompasses imparting background knowledge and skills related to public health. The department has been unfailingly working towards the betterment of health of the people of Madhya Pradesh, as well as discovering new knowledge and aspects of public health. It has been consistently working towards forming new strategies to help strengthen the preexisting health programmes of the nation and innovate better ones in the near future. It has been the department’s ultimate goal to advocate public health as the ultimate benefactor of societies on a holistic level. Section 14 of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Act 1956 and Amendment Act 2012, mentions functions of institute. Section 14(f)(v) “every institute may not withstanding anything contained in any other law for the time being in force, establish and maintain rural and urban health organization which will form centres for field training of medical, dental and nursing students of the institute as well as for research in to community health problems”.
AIIMS Bhopal have initiated procedure to establish urban and rural health centres.
Department has been working at three different field practice areas under respective centres.
• Centre for Urban Health (CUHA): 1100 Quarter Civil Dispensary, Saibaba Nagar, Bhopal
• Centre for Rural Health (CRHA): Primary Health Centre, Chiklod Kalan and Community Health Centre, Goharganj in Collaboration with Govt. of Madhya Pradesh till Department has their own infrastructure at Chiklod.
